After meeting in college at a Halloween party Marie Claire and her now-husband’s romance quickly blossomed, and continued to grow. Now Marie Claire admits “he’s a pain in my butt, but I still love him.”
he’s a pain in my butt,
but I still love him.

Marie Claire recalls the day she realised she loved her husband: “I knew early that I was in love with him. We were walking…to get lunch and he grabbed my hand and he was like ‘you know? I really, really love you.’ And we’ve loved each other ever since.”

But it wasn’t until he spent a year in Africa learning his trade that she knew he was the one. “I went to go visit him near the end and I walked out and saw him and I was like 100% no doubt in my mind… It’s cool to feel that way about someone, because I still feel that way about him.”

I knew early that I was in love with him.

While she clearly feels lucky to have him all the time, it’s his patience and thoughtfulness that she admires most. Like the time he surprised her with a puppy after she’d spent months jokingly sending him photos and hints. Or the day he proposed – on “a normal night” as they were getting ready to go to dinner. “It was the most amazing thing because it was so unexpected…it was just the two of us and it was perfect.”

A year later, they married on a day she remembers as completely blissful “I woke up smiling and didn’t stop the whole day. Nobody could make me cry. I was convinced I wouldn’t make it through the ceremony, but I was glowing.”
